I love this picture because Jean and I look like that same yuppie pair that appeared in her (or Chad's - one of you guys put that pic on your blog - I want to see it again) Christmas party pictures - only it's Saturday morning and we're being oh, so urban, sipping strong black coffee and reading the New York Times or working a Sudoku. At the very least we look like a really cool brother and sister duo ready to kick some ass, or mess with your head or something.
I love this picture because I look like I'm slowly turning into Grover from the head downwards.

UM. WOW. Thank you so very much for making my year. And not just the small-two-week-rest of this year, but of next year, of 2006 (and probably 2007) as well.
I love you, Matt. You called me radiant. I owe you my life and so, so much more.
Whenever I'm feeling bad about myself, I will look at all of these wonderful things you said about me. I will look at this picture of us and miss you and curse the Japanese children who need you more than I do. (But...it'll be a nice curse...I'm not EVIL or anything--I just look devilish.)
Why do we photograph so well together? And why do you look better in my hat than I do?
Don't shorthand yourself. In this photo I'm like: Look at this amazing guy I'm sitting next to. He plays the VIOLIN. He looks at poetry books at Borders for hours at a time. He probably knows what size underwear Rossetti wore because he is so dedicated to what he does. He dresses himself. WELL. And he says such nice things about his friends. And everything I could say could never compliment him as much as he just did me, and I'm a writer for crying out loud.
Come to Mankato this weekend, Matt. Do it. Now.
And, God bless you. : )
Yeah, there's no way around it - that's just an adorable picture. You both photograph so well! Maybe I'll print it up and put it in my wallet so I can carry it around and be all, no really! I do have friends! Attractive friends!
but on second thought, that's just kind of sad.
cute photo though!
I love this picture and I love that Matt said so many wonderful (and true) things about my best friend. I hope those Japanese kids know how lucky they are...
Erin, Jean, AV, and C-Lover:
Now you guys are all making MY day! Thanks for so many nice comments.
Side note story about the restaurant in the pic: I was sitting in the same restaurant this morning instead of going to work. As I ate, I listened to the woman at the table next to me go on and on to her dining partner about how many of her girlfriends were molested as children, which ones weren't, and how one particularly violent boyfriend used to drag a friend of hers, caveman style, by the hair ("that's why she's so bald!" - direct quote).
Not sure why I shared that. Oh, yes I do! I shared it because our super cool table would never so flippantly conduct such a loud, depressing conversation in public.
